Why We Love The Watchcap

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that you do not see here, please reach out! We're happy to hear from you anytime for any reason.

What exactly is "Grade A" Cashmere?

Grade A is the highest quality cashmere available. It is defined by two factors: micron count (fineness) and staple length (durability). We use fibers that are 14–15.5 microns thin—far too soft to trigger the "prickle" receptors on your skin—ensuring an itch-free experience.

What is the difference between 2-Ply and 6-Ply?

Ply refers to the number of strands twisted together. While most retail cashmere is 2-ply, our signature pieces are a Heavy Weight 6-ply. This density creates a "natural radiator" effect that regulates your core temperature and mood, providing a substantial, heirloom feel that lasts for decades.

Is it really "itch-free"? I have very sensitive skin.

The "itch" in lower-quality wool comes from thick, coarse fibers that poke the skin. Because our Grade A fibers are ultra-fine and flexible, they bend effortlessly against your skin, providing a "pajama party" level of comfort for your head and body.

Can I wear this in a blizzard (or the desert)?

Absolutely. Cashmere is a performance fiber designed by nature to protect goats in -30°F temperatures. We've tested our Watchcaps for 20 years in freezing rain, high-altitude blizzards, and desert nights. It wicks moisture and insulates naturally.

Will my cashmere hat stretch out over time?

If the hat is too small for you originally, it will "bell out" over time. However, our cashmere hats are designed to stretch only enough to form to your head in a comfortable manner. Other factors such as hair styles (dreadlocks) and use (excessive stretching) will obviously contribute to this as well.

Why is Scottish-processed yarn superior?

While 95% of the world's cashmere is processed elsewhere, we exclusively use Scottish-processed yarn. The mineral-free water and heritage spinning techniques in Scotland preserve the long-staple fibers, resulting in a garment that is softer, stronger, and significantly more resistant to pilling.
